There are various routes for admission.
The majority of our permanent long-term care home residents are placed by the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Trusts.
The individual’s healthcare and personal needs are usually assessed in detail by care managers, social workers and other healthcare professionals. This is a detailed process, and their needs will be assessed carefully to establish whether there is a need for high dependency nursing care or for residential care and support.
Other residents are privately admitted. It may be that they are simply no longer able to remain independent, care for themselves or be cared for at home.
A detailed care plan is developed for each resident which is regularly reviewed and updated.
Fees are either negotiated for each individual resident privately, or through health and social care professionals and paid for by the relevant statutory healthcare provider.
In the majority of cases where the Health and Social Care Trust funds the placement, fees are paid directly to the home.
